Forgotten and Faded: A Look at Cincinnati's Past (Now Sold Out)
Update: The event has now been sold out (all free tickets claimed). If you'd like to get on the waiting list in case someone ends up declining their ticket, you can do so by calling the museum at 513-684-4516.
I'll be giving a talk at the Taft Museum of Art in a few weeks as a complement to the museum's current exhibition Forgotten Cincinnati: Photographs from the 1880s. The exhibit is an incredible collection of 19th century glass-plate negatives that showcases Cincinnati as it was evolving from a backwater canal stop into a modern, major American city.
I'll be sharing visualizations of my work while talking about some of the subjects I've featured here on QC/D over the years. From abandoned subway tunnels to fading advertisements: missed opportunities, forgotten structures, lost icons, and how they link us to our past while enriching our future.
The event will take place at 1:30 PM at the Taft Museum of Art. Admission is free, but reservations are required by calling 513-684-4516 or through the museum's website. The event does not include museum admission.
From the Taft Museum of Art:
Join photographer and writer Ronny Salerno to look back in time at some of Cincinnati’s most ambitious projects. Drawing inspiration from the Forgotten Cincinnati exhibition, Salerno will take us on a visual journey of ghost signs and abandoned buildings to highlight a number of all-but-lost moments of Cincinnati history. Salerno is founder of the popular blog "Queen City Discovery" and author of the book "Fading Ads of Cincinnati."
