When Crosley was King
Before Crosley was the name of a stadium, Powell Crosley Jr.'s empire gave birth to the first commercially affordable radio, the "Nation's Station" 700 WLW, the first car radio and "soap operas.”
An Afternoon in the Rust Belt
Unlike upriver sister city, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati wasn't a center of America's steel production and doesn't really fit into the geographical region known as the "Rust Belt." However, the Queen City certainly has its share of shuttered and forgotten factories, former centers of industry and manufacturing. One of the most historical, and often documented, of these locations is the former Crosley Radio Factory.
All Along the Watchtower: The Crosley Climb
The first home of the "Nation's Station," 700 WLW, and the one time symbol of the Crosley corporation stands as a watchtower looking out over the industrious Camp Washington neighborhood and Interstate 75.
History of the Crosley Building
You may have seen The Crosley Building, the original home of Cincinnati's 700 WLW and former headquarters of famous inventor Powell Crosley featured on this website before. Despite the many explorations done inside very little specifics were known about the buildings history. Thanks to a recent contribution by Ram23 we now have an interesting tidbit about the building.
Crosley - Part 2: The Return.
Two weeks ago Tron2.0, Ram23, and I had the opportunity to re-visit the Crosley Building again. Tron2.0 first explored this place in March 2007, now almost a year later we returned with Ram23 and discovered a bit more about the former tenants.
