The Theme Building/Plane Watching at LAX
As 2020 ended and 2021 began, I was in California. That’s a longer story for another day, though. In the mean time, for the next few posts over the next few weeks, some photographs made around Los Angeles with a quick detour into the desert.
First stop: visiting the historic Theme Building before enjoying In-N-Out at the LAX plane viewing area.
Built between 1957 and 1961, the iconic “Googie” structure sits at the center of the Los Angeles International Airport. Over the years, several renovations have taken place, but no permanent tenant has occupied the upstairs lounge/restaurant area since 2013. The airport’s USO lounge is located on the building’s bottom floor and supposedly the observation deck is still open on weekends when there are no global pandemics. Contrary to popular belief and appearance assumption, the restaurant inside never revolved.
The above is post 1 of (eventually) 6 featuring photographs made while traveling to, in, and around Los Angeles.
