[35mm Ohio] Fairborn, Springfield, Columbus, & Mt. Sterling

Via a Pentax K1000 and Kodak Gold 200.

- Skyborn Skateland, Fairborn.

If you'd been reading QC/D in August, some of the sights seen in this post may be familiar. My friend Ryan and I stopped at the abandoned drive-in theaters and roller rink on the way to Columbus. We hung out with friends in the capitol for a few days then meandered back toward Cincinnati.

This roll (and another in a different camera) represent the first time using Kodak Gold 200. I was happy with how the film turned out—loving its cheap, warm and summer-vacation like consumer vibe. I tore some sprocket holes while rewinding the film and lost a few shots, but overall things turned out alright.

The abandoned structures seen above and below were once part of a city maintenance facility. They'll be demolished soon to make room for Columbus' new soccer stadium as covered in this post.

- King Gambrinus Statue, Columbus.

King Gambrinus is the legendary inventor of beer. Founded in 1906, the Gambrinus Brewery existed in Columbus until the mid-70s. For awhile, this statue was cast off and abandoned. It had a whole page dedicated to it at ForgottenOh.com. When I first got into urban exploring and photographing abandoned places, I read that website incessantly. Sadly, it seems that Forgotten Ohio is no more. The King Gambrinus statue, however, has been restored and put on display.

Mt. Sterling:

Ice cream for lunch after we came across the Dairy Freeze where the food was good, staff was friendly, and “Proud to be an American” was playing off a medium quality YouTube video on the television.
