[35mm Ohio] Cleveland, Cincinnati, and The Vortex
Fujifilm Superia X-tra 400 in a Canon AF3MII.
I watched the sun set on Lake Erie and noticed how the upper decks of the Brown’s stadium reminded me of Cinergy Field. The red lights of Terminal Tower kicked on and the green lights of buoys bobbed in the bay. I felt the breeze of the lake and the coolness of the concrete from where I sat—a cramp developing in my hand from writing in a notebook and my neck cracking as I looked up and felt a sense of tranquility. I heard languages I don’t speak, coming from tourists wandering about while planes from the nearby airport roared overhead and water lapped against the pier. The air smelled clean, absent of the sea or encroaching autumn, and all I could think of was how happy I was to sit there.
Later, in Columbus, I found a diner that was still open despite it being a Sunday evening. The biscuits and gravy came out a little too quickly to inspire confidence, but the service was good and the food was warm. The camera didn’t care for the low light, though, and struggled to make any shots worth sharing.
I went about life for the next few weeks occasionally advancing a roll of Fuji Superia X-Tra 400 through this struggling camera around Cincinnati...

...and spending time with friends who will soon head out to the other side of the world...
...but not before we all took a few hours one evening to go ride a suburban legend of our youth for the last time: Kings Island’s Vortex.
