[35mm Ohio] Clayton, Greenville, North Star, Celina, and The Temple of Tolerance
On the road with a Minolta XD-11 and roll of Kodak Ultramax 400.
Above and below: the closed Timber Lanes in Clayton.
- Closed lodge in Greenville. |
Above and below: the gum wall of the Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe in Greenville. We had just eaten breakfast and arrived before they opened, so no Roseanne-style loose meat sandwiches for us.
Above and below: The Blue and White Tiki Tavern of North Star, Ohio.
An abandoned hotel in Celina near Grand Lake St. Marys:
The shuttered office windows featured a warning about a local sex offender who had been living there, as well as, a notice that the hotel was no longer hiring.
Fading advertisements in Celina...
...and one for used cars in Mendon (along with a Minolta light leak).
The Temple of Tolerance in Wapakoneta:
Thanks to Mallorie S. who suggested swinging by here.
Nestled amongst neighborhood backyards, the Temple took 25 years to build. We met its creator, Jim Bowsher, during our brief visit and he showed us the various features including the centerpiece you can climb up, as well as, this installation:
It features spent bullet casings (collected by Jim from various gun ranges over the years) that represent each Ohio citizen killed in war.
Thanks to Jim for the friendly conversation on a cold day. You can read more about the Temple of Tolerance here
