Ohio Northeast Roadtrip
Three friends who met working at an amusement park in search of an abandoned one.
Suburbia Lost
A new photography project at Queen City Discovery documenting what's left behind in the sphere of suburbia.
Six Degrees of Abandoned Amusement Parks
Over the years, some of the most incredible abandoned places I've photographed have been defunct amusement parks. The six locations featured on this site all have a historical link to each other ...sort of.
"Echoes of Ourselves:" An Abandoned Hillside Home
Its been nearly four years since I last looked at these photographs, having made them in 2009 and forgotten about them until this morning. On the hillside of Mt. Auburn, amongst the streets of homes and their impressive cityscape vistas, lies a hollowed out and windowless structure. Constructed 134 years before I even stepped foot in the building, it's incredible to think about the lives and people who passed through here in nearly one and half centuries.
Coming Soon: Suburbia Lost
Continuing in Queen City Discovery's documentation of Urban Exploration and lesser known history, "Suburbia Lost" will be a look at the declining, overlooked and oft-forgotten structures left behind in the continued expansion of the perceived "paradise" that is Suburbia.
Photographs Made For the Walls of a Local Pizza Place That Uses Generic Boxes
There's a very inspirational quote at the end of this post.
Timelapse: A Foggy Night by the Big Mac Bridge
A time lapse thrown together of photographs while hanging out by the Big Mac bridge East of Cincinnati in the middle of the night. Image may take a few seconds to load.
In Memory of Robert Pence
The internet is an interesting place. Through it, we as people have the opportunity to connect and engage countless other human beings via virtual interaction. Some times, even without having met someone in person, we can grow to admire them, learn from them and work together.
This is Cincinnati, not Cin-Vegas
About three months from now, the Horseshoe Casino will open in downtown Cincinnati. The third of four casinos in the state, the Horseshoe will be bringing with it a sign reminiscent of the neon clad Las Vegas strip. However, this is Cincinnati, NOT Cin-Vegas.
Son of Beast Trackwalkers
I walked up the steep, wooden steps and started to sweat. The coveralls were now more of a nuisance as the morning got warmer. Just shy of the 218 ft. peak, I knelt down and swung my camera bag off my back, trying not to look down or behind me. I had lost count of the number of steps some time ago. Heights have never really bothered me, but this climb did.
Raptor Squadron 10
Abandoned Drive-In Theatre screen outside of Logan, OH. Photographed Nov. 8th, 2007.
Hockey Night in Hamilton
Just north of Cincinnati in the city of Hamilton there used to be an old school ice rink. Open air with an aircraft hangar like roof, the facility embodied "old time hockey." Today it's a parking lot adjacent to a satellite campus of Miami University, but at one time the place made it to the silver screen - when Hollywood considered Cincinnati a "hockey town.”
[Views of Cincinnati] Carew Tower Observation Deck
The observation deck of the Carew Tower, the only one open to the public in Cincinnati, is vastly different than that of most major city tourist attractions. It served as the location for the five newest frames made in support of 224 Views of Cincinnati.
Milacron Ruins
Some not so good photos and a not too interesting story that came from the exploration of an abandoned, half demolished factory.
Five Year Anniversary
Yesterday on October 29, 2012, Queen City Discovery turned five years old. The first post was a test post about how I was quoted in a City Beat article, the second post that day was LeSourdsville Lake/Americana Revisited - photos and a story about touring the abandoned remains of the local amusement park. As of this writing, that article is the still the fourth most popular on QCD.
