Film: Seriously, It's Not Hard
I'm new here at QCD, and you may have noticed my photos have been shot on film. People talk about shooting film like it's coke habit. Expensive, unpredictable and harmful to your libido. I beg to differ.
Lockland and Seth Foster
Let's start at the beginning. In 1830, the automobile hadn't been invented, steam locomotives were just taking hold on the East Coast, and the first electric motor was only ten years old. So presumably on a horse or on foot, a 16-year-old Seth Foster left Boone County, Kentucky to come to Cincinnati. In 1830, our fair city was home to around 24,000 people according the census and the population was exploding.

This is Cincinnati, not Cin-Vegas
About three months from now, the Horseshoe Casino will open in downtown Cincinnati. The third of four casinos in the state, the Horseshoe will be bringing with it a sign reminiscent of the neon clad Las Vegas strip. However, this is Cincinnati, NOT Cin-Vegas.

Hockey Night in Hamilton
Just north of Cincinnati in the city of Hamilton there used to be an old school ice rink. Open air with an aircraft hangar like roof, the facility embodied "old time hockey." Today it's a parking lot adjacent to a satellite campus of Miami University, but at one time the place made it to the silver screen - when Hollywood considered Cincinnati a "hockey town.”

Milacron Ruins
Some not so good photos and a not too interesting story that came from the exploration of an abandoned, half demolished factory.

BREAKING: Emilio Estevez to Not Film 'Airborne 2.'
Famous Hollywood writer/actor/director Emilio Estevez announced in Cincinnati today that he will be filming a family-friendly sports film that isn't the sequel to 1993's "Airborne.”

The Blue Ash Airport
When it comes to abandoned suburbia, one might think about closed fast food joints, shuttered gas stations or foreclosed homes. In Blue Ash though, there stands a small, closed airport. A piece of aviation history is set to be demolished for a new community park in a growing suburb amidst a political controversy that raises questions about the modern day pursuit of truth.

Polluting The Streets With Propaganda
Even if they have the answers I'm looking for, Scientology's way of telling me that already annoyed me enough to the point where I don't care about their message - I'm too busy throwing their post cards in the trash.

When a City Dared to Dream: How the 2012 Summer Olympics Could've Been in Cincinnati
Tomorrow the Games of the XXX Olympiad will officially open in London, Englad. This will be the UK capital's third time hosting the modern Olympic Games. Athletes, media and spectators from all across the globe will converge on the historic city, but many don't know that all of this could've happened in Cincinnati.

Escape From Mount Adams
Mt. Adams is gorgeous. A trip up the hillside affords beautiful views of the city and the river. The narrow streets are lined with unique and pretty homes reminiscent of an old world European village. Eden Park, a wonderful art museum, the Playhouse, Krohn Conservatory and Mirror Lake all add to the neighborhood's charm. On Friday and Saturday nights though, the mountaintop becomes invaded and overrun - like a college town bar strip with just the assholes and no college.

OTR Love Story
Andy had called me up the day before and told me his plan. In the heart of the historic city neighborhood, on the eve of the renovated Washington Park's opening, he would get down on one knee and propose to his girlfriend Janice.

"There's no door on your side, is that gonna be ok?" Why wouldn't it be? I figured he meant there was only a door on one side of the aircraft and I'd be up against a solid wall, but as he checked our seat belts - I realized there was literally nothing between me and the atmosphere except for my camera.

Union Terminal: A Jewel in the Crown of the Queen City.
It's one of the most prolific icons of Cincinnati, one of the finest examples of Art Deco in the world, a symbol of America's rise as a super power and one of the region's largest tourist attractions. From the steel superstructure, to the roof to the inner workings of its clock, check out Union Terminal like you've never seen it before. I recently had the privilege of joining a group of photographers touring the ins and outs of one of the city's greatest treasures, but it's a treasure we almost lost.

Whatever Happened to Circuit City?
I only got a half hour break and it was still my first week. So far I didn't mind the job. I was supposed to be selling cameras, but somehow ended up selling computers. The sales floor was stressful at times, especially for a 16 year old, but Best Buy paid better and was a lot more prestigious of a part time job than most other high school kids had at the time. All I wanted to do on that break was eat my McDonalds cheeseburger, but the guy next to me kept talking to me while he sipped on a Mountain Dew.

A Secret Passageway in Mt. Adams
I'm sure I'm not the only one who looked for secret passages in their house as a kid, only to be disappointed that such things didn't exist (at least in the suburban homes that six year old me wandered). While what I stumbled upon isn't really the kind of "secret passage" you'd find when pulling the right book off the shelf, it does provide a relatively unknown route up the ritzy neighborhood hillside of Mt. Adams.

Major League Soccer in Cincinnati?
"We love ya, we love ya, we love ya!
And where you go we'll follow, we'll follow, we'll follow!
Cause we support Columbus, Columbus, Columbus!
And that's the way we like it, we like it, we like it!"

[Views of Cincinnati] #16 - Tonight, Tonight
I was listening to the Smashing Pumpkins song of the same name when I sat down to write the words to accompany this photograph. I'm at a loss for words tonight, so some Smashing Pumpkin lyrics will have to do - they're pretty indicative though.

[Views of Cincinnati] Elevator Glass
The Big Red Machine used to play nearby, their stadium gone. In its place: new development - a resurgence of the riverfront, an extension of the city. It all looks up to the line of skyscrapers that cut into the sky along with the clouds and contrails of airplanes. The riverfront uprising offers its own jagged edge in the form of glass.
