Fading Advertisements: Pittsburgh
The city of Pittsburgh has several similarities to that of Cincinnati, both hailing from early American fortifications along Midwestern riverbanks. On top of the similar climates, economies, population size, hills, etc. - their downtowns are both rich with fading advertisements. While I’m sure there’s many more, here’s a few that I came across while recently spending a weekend there.

Fading Advertisements: Zanesville, OH
Recently, I spent a brief amount of time in Zanesville, Ohio while on my way to points eastward.

Fading Advertisements: Columbus, OH and Indianapolis, IN
Two quick entires of fading signs in Columbus, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Fading Advertisements: Hosiery, a Signature, and Main as a Two-Way Street?
A recently uncovered fading advertisement on Main St. and others.

Fading Advertisements: Normal Business College in Petoskey, MI
Found last December while in Northern Michigan.

The Fates of Some Fading Signs
The Schuster Electric Co. sign was once relatively obscured, hidden behind a parking garage. For a short time, it once again saw the light of day. When a new building went up nearby, it survived. If you know where to look, you can still find it. Meanwhile, other signs aren't so lucky.

Fading Advertisements: Obama on Liberty Street
After spending the past two years documenting fading advertisements, this one doesn't really follow the theme of all those I featured in the book. Nevertheless, in a way, it was an advertisement of support for the 44th President of the United Sates and for Ollie's Trolley, the business it stands behind on Liberty Street in Cincinnati's Over-The-Rhine neighborhood. Photographed on January 19th, 2017, I felt it was an interesting thing to document on the eve of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. One historical election to the next.

Fading Advertisements: Lancaster and Dayton, Ohio
Coming across fading advertisements everywhere now. Some Ohio signs found in places other than home.

Fading Advertisements: Wiedemann's Fine Bohemian-Style Beer + Wiedemann and Dreidame Inc.
A local brew making a comeback still has signs of its past around town.
Nope, here's a lesson on why you don't assume things.

For a Few Hours, a Fading Advertisement Returned to Prominence
A visual artist traveling across the nation and world stops in Cincinnati to bring a fading advertisement briefly back to life.

Some Things Are Worth Saving
A downtown landmark with historic roots faces an uncertain future at the crossroads of demolition and preservation.

Announcing: "Fading Ads of Cincinnati"
I am incredibly excited to announce that I've signed an agreement with The History Press to photograph and write a book about "Ghost Signs" in the greater Cincinnati area. Defined as "fading advertisements" and "disappearing art," "ghost signs" harken back to a region's economic and cultural past. Combining modern photography with historical research, I hope to create a book that brings to light these artifacts that are hiding in plain sight.

"Always Coca Cola"
Standing at the base of a pile of ruble that had once been 1/4 of the Ault & Wiborg Building, one couldn't help but remember the slogan that had been used from 1993-2000 by the soft drink giant who used this building as a billboard for so many years.
