[Suburbia Lost] Porsche Dealership - Springdale

This past Sunday I was driving home from work. As I merged onto the highway, my 1996 Geo Prizm known as the "Mean 'Geo' Okerlund" started making a strange vibrating noise. "Fuck, I'll have to get that looked at this week," I thought to myself. Next thing I know, there's a loud bang and the check engine light is on. Then the car stalled out as I swerved over to the emergency lane. The tow truck came and the Geo was pronounced dead having thrown a rod in the engine. So I'm now in the market for a new car. I can't afford a Porsche, but even if I could - I wouldn't be able to buy it at this shuttered dealership in Springdale.




Car dealerships are a common sight in the suburban landscape. Even when closed at night, their bright lights shine down and glimmer off of the polished, new vehicles sitting in their vast lots. I'm not sure when this particular Porsche dealership closed and I believe it relocated. Either way, the abandoned complex is hardly reflective anymore of the luxury vehicles it once sold.










Suburbia Lost is an ongoing documentation of decay in the sphere of a perceived paradise. After years of photographing abandoned, forgotten, and often historical locations in the city, this project aims to take a look at how structures fare in the sphere of suburbia.
