The Calm of Carew

Even in the middle of a snowstorm, the Carew Tower observation deck can be the most calming spot in the city...

It's been a strange winter. Cincinnati's cold months seem to violently shift from year to year - they're either mild or harsh - flurries or sub freezing temperatures. I've spent most of my time lately trying to develop the new layout for QC/D and working, but have managed to go out shooting a few times in the cold with the crazy fog, high rising river and blankets of snow it creates.

Winter is one of the few times you can catch a night/sunset view of the city from the top of the Carew Tower. On Saturdays, the skyscraper's open air observation deck stays open until 7:00 PM - still daylight in the summer, but nighttime in the winter.

Despite that the observation deck essentially becomes an ice rink with snowfall greatly diminishing visibility amongst howling winds - it's still one of the most calming places in the city.

With QC/D's new layout, Cam and I have the opportunity to post larger and higher-res photographs. Stay tuned for some new full length articles coming soon and be sure to check out the new database of all our Urban Exploration and Article work.
