Discussing Arena/Indoor Football at the Beehive
If you’ve ever wondered about the history of arena/indoor football in Cincinnati and/or what my Nana thought of “having” to go see her grandkids do things—this story is for you.
Supporters’ Shield
An annual award given to the Major League Soccer club with the best regular season record, the trophy is recognized by the league—but was created by, and is overseen by, independent fans. FC Cincinnati claimed the shield in 2023.
A WCW Hat Signed by Nick Fotiu
It was the first pro wrestling pay-per-view of the new millennium.
Fear and Loathing in Canton, Ohio
We walked to the Super Bowl even though there were no sidewalks. It had all come down to this.
Documenting The West End Stadium
A visual record of FC Cincinnati’s new home. How the venue appeared before its grand opening.
Rubber Bowl Sunday
When I decided to head to Cleveland this weekend, I didn’t realize that it was the same weekend as the Super Bowl. Not that it was a problem, I wasn’t too concerned.
[Fading Advertisements] US Bank Arena
As a naming rights sponsor departs, the downtown Cincinnati indoor arena receives some new fading ads/ghost signs that complement its others.
The Arena
I was wrapping up photographs of the Showboat Majestic nearby, trying to get a clear shot of the boat from above. As I finished the day's assignment, I found myself walking around where the arena's plaza meets the bridge, making photographs of the ‘venue formerly known as the Riverfront Coliseum.’
Cooper Stadium and Reflecting on a Relationship With Baseball
There was this scrap of paper that had been on the floor of my apartment next to the dryer for a few days. I never managed to pick it up until I finally had to do some laundry. I scraped it off the fake wood and for a second, I thought it was a sticker of some sort. When it came up, I turned it over and found the Major League Baseball logo. Which is odd, because I haven't been wearing any clothing adorned with MLB trademarks for some time.
Major League Soccer in Cincinnati!
In 2012 I wrote a piece titled: "Major League Soccer in Cincinnati?"
Six years later, I got to write this followup: "Major League Soccer in Cincinnati!"
From the Pitch
I had the opportunity to join the incredibly talented Alex Vehr for this past weekend's FC Cincinnati match. It was great to have a new perspective on a game and get back to photographing soccer while first place FC Cincinnati took on Ottawa Fury FC at Nippert Stadium.
Goodbye to The Gardens
There was never a better place to watch hockey in Cincinnati. The Gardens was classic. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

An Update to the Story of Galbreath Field
You may remember the "From the Archives" story back in February 2017 about Galbreath Field. The stadium was a high school football venue and once a cornerstone of the departed College Football Hall of Fame. In addition to American football, Galbreath also hosted the Cincinnati Riverhawks, a defunct pro soccer team that came well before the rise of FC Cincinnati.
Stadium Seats and Stories From the Gardens
Over this weekend, I was lucky enough to add an original seat from the Cincinnati Gardens to my pair of Riverfront Stadium seats. I loved the Gardens and have a lot of great memories from there. I'm still hoping that I can maybe do one more story on the place and see it one last time before its date with the wrecking ball.
The Extraordinary Story of the Cincinnati Comets
All that remains of the Comets' story is a small Wikipedia page, a few online factoids, and articles in newspaper archives. I think the team's story is one worth telling—one that should be remembered alongside the story of American soccer’s evolution, of Cincinnati’s departed NBA team, and of the city's missed chance at an NHL team.
From the Archives Part 3: Galbreath Field and the Cincinnati Riverhawks
In the latest edition of stories from the archives, some decade old photographs of an abandoned football stadium reveal the history of a short-lived pro soccer team just as the current team pursues major league status.
