December 2016
Favorite photographs made in December 2016, the last month of a rather interesting year with so many positives and one glaringly dark negative. October 2017 will mark the tenth year of this website being active. That's a little tough for me to comprehend. There's a lot more to post and a lot of work to be done on several fronts. In the meantime, here are some images from December and a slight preview of things to come.
Cleveland via the RTA
There's a feeling people get when they visit a place in their time off. Where they can picture themselves living there, caught up in the naivety that actual life in a place would be just like visiting on vacation. For me, I never thought I'd get that feeling with Cleveland, Ohio, that I'd find such an appreciation for this fellow midwestern city. Cleveland, however, lives up to the pride that so many people take in it.
The West Chester Collection
Photographs and stories from living north of Cincinnati, Ohio in the suburban town of West Chester for the past year.
November 2016
It’s been an interesting month and aside from one update, I haven’t posted since the last monthly photograph post. Even this one’s a few days late.

October 2016

Abandoned School Playground
Hidden behind an active athletic complex and school, a suburban playground sits forgotten.
The Fall of Celebrity Themed Restaurants in Cincinnati
Willie's Sports Cafe in Covington was once an iconic sports bar named for and once partially owned by a local radio host. It's the latest in a long line of celebrity inspired restaurants in the area to close up shop.
Scenes From The Midwestern Roadside
Encounters on the road over the past few years with the savior's truckin' servants and the dinosaurs in the hills.
The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum
In Eastern Ohio, the roadside collection of a humble reverend who's legacy is preserved in the form of unique office supplies.

Coming across fading advertisements everywhere now. Some Ohio signs found in places other than home.
Fading Advertisements: Wiedemann's Fine Bohemian-Style Beer + Wiedemann and Dreidame Inc.
A local brew making a comeback still has signs of its past around town.
Nope, here's a lesson on why you don't assume things.

[Suburbia Lost] Dynasty Buffet, Bigg's, Pizza Hut, and KFC - Colerain, Ohio
To the west of Cincinnati in Colerain Township: fast food, a supermarket, and the type of restaurant that seems to always fit into any kind of dying suburban development.
[Suburbia Lost] Dessert Options - West Chester, Ohio
West Chester, Ohio has one of the region's most iconic ice cream stands. It also has three abandoned competitors.
Retail Remnants: Demolition of the Pogue's Garage
"Pogue's garage" in Cincinnati ran along 4th St. between Race and Elm. Its demolition is another sign of the changing times and development in the city's urban core. Stale and sterile in appearance, the structure probably won't be missed by anyone. However, the story it's connected to is one of the Queen City's retail history and if anything, at least this parking garage once offered a great view from the top.
Retro Surf Cincinnati Commercials circa 1988.
If you've followed QC/D for awhile you may be familiar with the saga of Surf Cincinnati. It was the first abandoned place I ever truly explored and photographed. On top of that, its story hit on several personal notes: I went here a lot as a kid and exploring an abandoned amusement park always made me reflective of the years I spent working in one myself. Photographs of the park when it was active are few and far between, and until this one, I had never seen a video or commercial from the park pop up online.
